Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and Doctor Watson (Nigel Bruce) are called in to help solve a series of mysterious murders in which the victims are left without their right forefingers. The infallible twosome discover a link between a female hypnotist and a blackmail venture, which leads them inevitably to Holmes' arch-enemy, Moriarty (Henry Daniell).
